What the skill does
A skill is a set of instructions for an AI agent — a few text files and a small program. This one teaches the agent how a Voyalta trip is built: days, entries with times and time zones, ideas without a fixed slot, tasks and documents.
You say where you are going. The agent plans and writes a file ending in .voyalta. You open it, and Voyalta turns it into a new trip — complete, with the flight across two time zones, the hotel over several nights and booking references in the right place.
Your existing trips stay untouched. An import always creates a new trip and never overwrites anything.
What you need
Right now the whole path works only on a Mac — and only with an agent that is allowed to touch your files. The trip file is built with a tool that is part of macOS. A chat in the browser can write the travel plan, but it cannot build the file from it.
That will change: a later version of Voyalta will read the travel plan directly as a JSON file. Any chat on any device will then be enough, and this detour disappears.
Until then:
- Full path — a Mac and an agent with file access, such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex CLI or Gemini CLI. The agent plans and builds the file in one go.
- Half path — a chat in the browser, such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude on the web. You get the finished travel plan as JSON and then build the file on a Mac with a single command.
And Voyalta itself, of course — the file opens on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

voyalta-reise-skill.zip
The archive holds four files:
SKILL.md— the instructions for the agent. This is the heart of it.references/FORMAT.md— the file format in detail, in case the agent needs a closer look.examples/hongkong.json— a sample trip to work from.scripts/make_voyalta.py— turns the travel plan into the finished trip file.
Setting it up
How the skill gets into the agent depends on what you work with. Everything after that is the same everywhere.
Claude Code
Unpack the archive into the skills folder, and that is it. Claude then finds the skill by itself as soon as you ask for a trip.
unzip ~/Downloads/voyalta-reise-skill.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/
Claude Desktop
In the settings under Capabilities → Skills upload the archive. For the agent to build the file as well, it needs access to your files — in Claude Desktop through the file system connector.
Codex CLI, Gemini CLI and other terminal agents
Unpack the archive into your working folder and point the agent at the instructions: “Read voyalta-reise/SKILL.md and follow it.” If you work with AGENTS.md or GEMINI.md , put that line in there.
ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude in the browser
Upload SKILL.md and references/FORMAT.md into the chat — in ChatGPT as the knowledge files of a project, in Gemini and Claude as an attachment. The chat then writes you the travel plan as JSON. Save it on your Mac and build the file with one command:
python3 voyalta-reise/scripts/make_voyalta.py reiseplan.json -o ~/Desktop
Having a trip planned
From here on, only what you say matters. An example:
Put together four days in Lisbon in March: flight from Zurich,
a hotel in the old town, two museums, a day trip to Sintra
and a few food ideas. Make a Voyalta file from it.
The more you give it, the less the agent has to guess: travel dates, budget, who you are travelling with, what interests you. Bookings that are already made are best given with time and booking reference — they then land in the right place in the plan.
Good agents invent nothing. What they do not know, they leave empty: an invented booking reference looks real and is worse than an empty field. Anything without a date goes into the trip as an idea and waits for you there.
- You describe the trip.
- The agent puts it together and writes the plan.
- The program builds the trip file from it and checks it.
- You open it in Voyalta.
Importing into Voyalta
- Mac — double-click the file.
- iPhone and iPad — tap it in the Files app, or send it to Voyalta from the share menu.
- From another device — get the file onto the device by AirDrop, mail or iCloud Drive and open it there.
Voyalta creates a new trip and then tells you how many entries, tasks and documents arrived. If the trip carries the same name as an existing one, a number is appended — nothing is ever merged.
If something is off, simply delete the trip again. It then sits in the trash, like any other.
Good to know
The file is not encrypted
Whoever has it reads booking references, contacts and every attached document in the clear. A boarding pass often carries the code that lets someone change the booking. So send the file as carefully as you would the documents themselves.
What does not travel along
The agent can only include documents whose files are already on your disk — a ticket that does not exist yet cannot be attached. A shared web link always belongs to exactly one trip and never travels along.
Check the plan
An AI agent plans quickly, but not infallibly. Opening hours, public holidays, journey times and prices change — go through the trip once after importing, before you book.
For the curious
The format is open: references/FORMAT.md in the archive describes the file completely. Build your own tools on it if you like.
